K'jhar mine workers protest called off

Published on:

Workers of KN Ram Mines situated at Barbil under Joda mining circle of Keonjhar district called off their strike on Tuesday.

Sources close to AITUC general secretary Maheswar Rout revealed that the union had given a charter of demands of the workers to the management in December, 2015, but the management did not respond to it. Rather, Section 144 was imposed in the mines area to take action against the union leaders.

Even the company management withheld the annual increment to the workers for the period 2015-16. Being aggrieved, the workers started agitation and sat on Dharna in front of the main gate of the mine on May 9. However, labor Enforcement Officer (lEO), Barbil, Fajlull Hassan called for a discussion to both the parties and there was an agreement between the management and the union following which the stir was called off. Union leaders Kapila Mahanty and Bijit Mahanty among others participated.
