A university at Vedvyas where Vyasadev wrote the holy script Mahabharata should come up in the name of Kosal University with its address as ‘Vyasa Bihar’. This has been mooted in a resolution of the by Kosal Janata Dal (KJD) by its pesident Baidyanath Mishra.
Mishra said this while speaking at the launch ceremony of a five-month- long membership drive of the party which began at Rourkela on Tuesday.
Mishra was critical about the Government’s lopsided development, especially in the tourism sector. Places of tourism importance in western Odisha like Vedyas, Khandadhar, Nrusinghanath and Harishankar are not being developed due to lack of political will and parochial considerations. The Government, it seems, is not in favour of an inclusive growth of Odisha despite the State’s continuing “poor” tag in the country, he said.
Mishra also argued in favour of an Assembly session at Rourkela like the one at Nagpur in Maharashtra. The Odisha Government should also provide land at Rourkela for a ‘Kosal Bhawan’ to promote Kosli language and culture, he added.
It was later decided that a memorandum on these points would be submitted to the Odisha Governor.
KJD vice-president Sanat Kumar Pradhan elaborated on the future course of action by the party and asked its members to get prepared for the ensuing elections for the urban bodies as well as the general elections.
Party executive member Surama Mishra said she had raised the issue of negligence to the tourism sector, especially to Vedvyas, at a journalists’ conference in Delhi pleading for making this as the country’s number one knowledge hub.
Guest speaker Pitabas Mishra, editor, Utkal Mail, said western Odisha populace in its entirely are natural members of the Kosal Janata Dal. Only a mass-connect programme is what is required. The party should organise a cycle rally to cover the entire western Odisha under a mass-reach out programme.
lalatendu Chouwdhury, Ranjan lenka and Debabrata Das also spoke. Party general secretary Chakranta Jena proposed a vote of thanks
