The Kosal Janata Dal (KJD) presented a memorandum to the Odisha Governor through Rourkela ADM Y Yedulla Bijaya demanding an alcohol-free Odisha and second State Women Commission at Rourkela.
High alcohol consumption in Odisha over the years has remained a constant cause of concern leading to social disorder and the fallout is high incidence of violence on women including rape and sexual abuse of girl child. The only Women Commission stationed in Bhubaneswar is not adequate to handle the number of complaints coming from various corners of the State. The tribal dominated south western Odisha has been the worst sufferer as the victims cannot reach the commission on account of their poverty. The travesty of justice demands one more commission for them, the memorandum stated.
Spokesperson of KJD Surama Mishra accompanied by party State president Baidyanath Mishra, general secretary Chakranta Jena, secretary Swarup Mishra, treasurer Lalatendu Choudhury and a host of members, including its adviser Samanta Kumar Sahoo, presented the memorandum to the ADM.
