The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) has been invited to participate in the Sixteenth Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), a high-level advisory body to the Economic and Social Council. The session, to be inaugurated by the UN Secretary General, will be held at the UN Headquarters in New York from April 24 to May 5.
The KISS representative will make a presentation on “Empowerment of Indigenous Women in Odisha - A Case Study of KISS” and also participate in a panel discussion on the first day. The presentation will focus on how the KISS is playing an important role in empowering indigenous girls socially and economically through education and replication of the KISS model in other countries. The forum will also celebrate the 10th anniversary of the United Nations declaration on the rights of indigenous people. More than 3,000 NGO representatives and individuals working for empowerment of indigenous people from member countries of UN will join the session.
