Kanya Kiran, a campaign to stop violence against women and girl child, was launched by Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in association with the UN Women and Kalinga Fellowship here on Sunday.
Minister of Women & Child Development (Mission Shakti) Prafulla Samal, MP Prasanna Patasani, Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena, Bhubaneswar (North) MlA Priyadarshi Mishra, Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Chairperson Sandhyabati Pradhan, Commissioner of Police YB Khurania, social activist Subhashree Das and little Miss World Galaxy awardee Mrigakshi R Kumar flagged off the campaign.
The guests pointed out that despite stringent laws, the violence on women and girl child are increasing day by day. Unless people’s mindsets change, this problem can’t be overcome. Mass awareness is the need of the hour. The KISS has taken a praiseworthy initiative by starting the campaign named “Kanya Kiran” to stop violence against women and girl child, they added.
In his welcome address, KIIT & KISS Founder Dr Achyuta Samanta said that for last five years, during the summer break, the KISS students and their parents have been engaging themselves in awareness programmes on important social issues.
This year, the 27,000 students of KISS along with their parents and 3,000 women staffs of KIIT and KISS would be campaigning on the theme “Kanya Kiran”.
