American TV channel Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) having the highest TRP, featured the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) prominently in its programme on Tuesday.
The programme, which is now available on the channel's website, was broadcast during PBS News Hour in all over the United States as well as in Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Guam and American Samoa.
The PBS had sent its special correspondent Fred De Sam lazaro to the KISS after learning from its sources that the institute provides education in a fully residential setting free of cost to as many as 20,000 tribal children.
The PBS team interacted with its KISS Founder Dr Achyuta Samanta to find out the truth about the institute. After three days of investigation, the programme was recorded.
A 20-minute programme titled “Entrepreneur offers India's aboriginal children opportunity to attend school” was finally broadcast on July 16. The programme touched 120 million TV viewers as well as 29 million people on internet, who were surprised to know that there is an institution like the KISS in the world.
This is the first time that any institution from Odisha has featured on this TV channel, said non-resident Odias (NROs) in America and congratulated Samanta for the noble initiative.
