After being denied permission to participate in the State-level Independence Day parade here on Monday, transgenders displayed their patriotism at a different venue.
The Kinnars marched to the beats of drums and tunes near the Durga Mandap at Nayapally in the city along with some schoolchildren.
The members of the third gender were to participate in the State-level parade, but the last moment denial of permission had left them frustrated.
They had practised for nearly three weeks for the big event. The 30-member marching contingent was denied permission on the ground that their preparation was not up to the mark.
“We feel proud to march with the schoolchildren. We had felt disheartened after the Government denied permission to us to take part in the State-level parade. We would continue our practice so that we would be granted permission next time,” a transgender said.
“We have full confidence that we will make it one day. We would continue our efforts and make our way to the Republic Day parade on January 26,” another transgender said.
