Kin dump Covid deceased in septic tank

Published on:

When Raibari Munda (45) of Koira block had died of Covid in January, her relatives and neighbours did not turn up to help lift the body to the cremation ground due to fear of catching infection. The plea of her husband Chandra Munda and other members of her family at Munda Basti went in vain. Finally, finding no other alternative, the family dumped the body in an under construction septic tank and buried it there.

On Sunday, Raibari’s son Gende lodged an FIR in Koira police station that when the fellow villagers were informed about the death of Raibari due to Covid 19, they did not come to join his father Chandra and him in taking the body to the graveyard for burying her.

Finding no other alternative, helpless Chandra had taken the body to backside of his house and had buried it inside an under construction septic tank. A police team of Koira police station along with a scientific team went to the spot and recovered bones from the septic tank. Koira police sent the bones to the VIMSAR, Burla on Monday, for forensic test.
