Declassify Netaji files from birthplace to battlefield, demanded Subhas Chandra Bose’s nephew Abhijit Ray on Thursday. Speaking at a Press meet here, he said all the 100 files with the Central Government and 60 odd files with the West Bengal Government should be de-classified to unravel the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of Netaji.
He alleged that even after 68 years of the country’s independence, a true history of Indian freedom movement was not written. Regretting that the role of revolutionaries like Bhagat Singh and Netaji, who sacrificed their life for the country’s freedom, was not properly recognized, Ray demanded that the leaders should be presented in true perspective.
He further stated that the news of Netaji’s death in a plane accident on August 18, 1945 is not true. “After Independence, when a hue and cry was raised by the public, the Government formed a three-member committee to probe Netaji’s death. A former Indian National Army member and Minister in the then Government Sahanawaj Khan, an Indian Administrative Service officer SN Moitra and the elder brother of Netaji Suresh Chandra Bose were its members. But Khan, who was heading the committee, without going to Taiwan and sitting at Delhi, said that Netaji was killed in the air crash,” said Ray.
He further informed that the other two members did not agree with him. Netaji’s brother Suresh Chandra Bose also prepared a report himself which was also rejected by the Government. However, archives in Taiwan said that on that particular day no air crash had taken place there. Besides, the American and British intelligence had also rejected the report of Netaji’s death in a plane crash. Ray claimed that the ashes of Netaji kept in a temple in Jan are not of the INA leader.
Notably, Utkal Bikash Juba Parishad is now on an all-India tour taking the birthplace soil of Netaji for unraveling the mystery behind the leader’s death and declassification of his documents with the Government. Its president Debi Prusty informed that more than 25 organisations under a single banner will hold a rally in New Delhi on August 18 at Jantar Mantar demanding declassification of the Netaji files.
