In yet another incidence of disrespect to the dead, a family carried the body of a member by motorcycle allegedly due to non-availability of Mahaprayan hearse vehicle in the district on Saturday.
The video of the incident has now gone viral on social media.
Reports said one Akrura Jena of Udayapur village died while undergoing treatment at Delanga hospital.
Though his family members asked for an ambulance, the hospital authorities refused them saying that the Mahaprayan vehicle was unavailable.
With no option left, the family of the deceased tried to hire a private ambulance but decided to carry the body by motorcycle as the ambulance demanded high charges.
Notably, the Mahaprayana vehicle service is a highly-subsidised State Government scheme which has been made accessible to all. But non-availability of the hearse vehicles has resulted in such incidents.
