A bear that had killed three persons on Tuesday was beaten to death in the Shingadi forest under Chandahandi block in Nabarangpur district on Thursday.
One lanbodhar Majhi of Phatki village and one Nakul Majhi and his wife Turturi had gone to the nearby forest to collect green leafy vegetables. They had been attacked by the bear. later, the forest officials and police had recovered the dead bodies of the trio.
After that, the Forest Department had spread a net and a tranquiliser team was also on alert to capture the animal. However, on Thursday, when the bear suddenly came in front of the villagers, over a hundred of locals started beating the animal with stones and sticks killing it on the spot.
It is alleged that though forest and police officials were present on the spot, they did not take any steps to rescue the animal
