The KIIT University here opened a School of Architecture and Planning from this academic session of 2013-14.
“The country needs 40,000 planners but produces only 3,000 every year,” said Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Secretary Arun Kumar Misra inaugurating the school.
The KIIT is unique in supplementing its educational excellence with a very strong social angle by taking care of 20,000 tribal children through KISS. This institution not only educates but also provides quality of life to the underprivileged children at par with best public schools of the country, Misra remarked.
Founder of KISS and KITT Dr A Samanta informed that the KIIT School of Architecture and Planning was being planned for so many years and the plans were realised this year.
This academic year the school is offering BArch programme with an intake of 60, informed its director Prof SS Ray. Courses on planning as well as Masters Degree programmes would be started in coming years, he said.
As the campuses of the KIIT University are very planned and beautifully designed, it was most appropriate to launch a school of architecture here, said university Vice-Chancellor Prof PP Mathur
