The KIIT University has gained a lot of momentum within a short span of time solely due to the vision, commitment and hard work of its founder Achyuta Samanta, said Chief Justice of India P Sathasivam in his address to the students of the university here on Friday.
The university provides excellent facility and has a bright future, he said and advised the students to utilise the opportunity. The Chief Justice was accompanied by Justice Dipak Misra of the Supreme Court and their wives. "The Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) is indeed a pride of our country; it is much more than a school; it is an agent of social change," Justice Sathasivam stated, adding that it is recognised as a successful model of tribal empowerment through education. This was the second visit of Justice Sathasivam to the KIIT and KISS. He had visited the institutes with former Chief Justice Altamas Kabir in 2011.
He said Samanta's achievements as a social entrepreneur within a brief period remind him of the wisdom words of Swami Vivekananda "let us have faith in ourselves. I see it clear as daylight that we have infinite power in ourselves". Samanta is the living icon for these words, Justice Sathasivam said. Stating that education is a process by which character is framed and intellect is built, he wanted students to be as conscious of fundamental duties as well as Fundamental Rights. Justice Misra outlined the duties of students of law.
Presentableness and presentation are two essential characteristics of a successful lawyer. Precision, exactitude and concentrated focus are important for success in legal profession, he said. Earlier, Samanta said the occasion would remain a red letter day in the KIIT’s history. KIIT Chancellor Prof Nl Mitra delivered the presidential address while Vice-Chancellor Prof PP Mathur proposed the vote of thanks.
