The KIIT felicitated its alumnus and 9th rank holder in the UPSC Civil Services Examination Suman Saurav Mohanty. He was a 2008-batch student of BTech Mechanical Engineering of the KIIT University.
“Suman has not only brought glory to KIIT but also to the State of Odisha. His success will motivate and inspire coming batches of the university,” said KIIT and KISS founder Prof Achyuta Samanta. He also felicitated Suman’s father Santanu Kumar Mohanty, a retired OAS officer, and mother Kabita Mohanty.
Suman had got job offers from Wipro and Reliance Energy through campus placement. He joined Reliance Energy and worked for four years. He briefly worked with the Odisha Government before joining the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS).
later, he cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination and joined the Indian Revenue Service (IRS). However, he was pushed by his mother to try again for the Indian Administrative Service. His hard work and patience was rewarded when he secured the 9th rank in his next attempt.
Suman said, “I owe my success to the blessings of God, my family, particularly my mother, and ethos and values learnt at the KIIT.” Revealing that he was asked about the process of empowerment in the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) in the interview, he stated, “I have learnt humility and dedication from the founder of KIIT & KISS. I want to see the KIIT University as the top university of the world.”
