A Swachh Dant Abhiyan (Clean Teeth Awareness Campaign) was organised by the Kalinga Institute of Dental Sciences (KIDS), KIIT University here on Friday.
It was an initiative to create awareness among the public on oral and dental health and also about preservation of natural teeth. An awareness rally was taken out by KIDS students from Big Bazaar Square, Patia to the KIDS campus. The theme of the campaign was ‘life is best with teeth; so join hands to give yourself a Smile 4 life’.
A total of 150 students participated in the rally. The rally was flagged off by KIIT University Registrar Prof Sasmita Samanta in the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof PP Mathur.
The students carried dental health-related banners and placards. As an innovation, they gave away balloons to general public that had messages like drawing of ‘Smiling Tooth’ and messages like ‘Better Teeth… Better Health’ written on them. These balloons were also given to shops to tie it at the entrance. Many auto drivers also took them to tie it on their vehicles. Handmade gifts and cards with oral health message written on them were also distributed to children.
Dr Shyam insisted on four important aspects to keep the teeth healthy - twice brushing and flossing, healthy diet, abstinence from tobacco and alcohol and regular visit to dentist.
