The State Progressive Women’s Forum, working for safety and rights of the women fraternity, and the family members of a 17-year-old college girl, who was allegedly abducted from September 5 from her college campusm by her former tuition mteacher, on Tuesday denounced the inaction of the Khandagiri police in arresting the culprit.
According to forum chairperson Mamata Samantray, the victim, a second year mPlus II science student of City Women’s College here, was abducted by Debabrata Nayak of Ganaganagar from the campus in the presence of students and teachers.
“The victim was the only child of her parents. Though her family members lodged a complaint of kidnapping with the Khandagiri police soon after the incident, no positive step has so far been taken to arrest the culprit,” Samantray told reporters here.
Samantray said, “On September 14, a fact-finding team of the forum, along with the Khandagiri police, visited the college and interacted with students. The students identified the photograph of Debabrata Nayak and said he took the victim with him by putting a handkerchief in her face.”
“We do not understand why the police are not taking step to arrest the culprit,” rued Samantray, adding that the forum has submitted a
memorandum to the Chief Minister urging him to form a special squad to investigate the cases of abduction and trafficking of young girls
in the State.
