Senior IPS officer Yogesh Bahadur Khurania on Wednesday succeeded Dr Rajendra Prasad Sharma as the new Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissioner of Police.
With a vision to make the Commissionerate Police a professional, citizen-centric and technology-driven service provider, Khurania said a ‘Vision 2020’ roadmap would be prepared to face the challenges in realising the goals.
“We will prepare Vision 2020 which will highlight the key aspirations and plans and challenges of the Commissionerate Police system,” Khurania told reporters after assuming office.
Maintaining that the Commissionerate Police is a friend of people, the 1990-batch officer said a senior officer would be engaged at the Commissionerate headquarters to hear and dispose of grievances of people daily.
“We will try to be more people-friendly. A senior police officer will hear public grievances between 4 pm and 5 pm daily at the Commissionerate headquarters,” said Khurania.
Stating that the lack of human resources is a major challenge, Khurania, the fifth Commissioner of Police, said he would try to sort out the issue.
“We have to see the situation in police station and outpost levels. Huge vacancies are there. I will try to fill up the posts,” he said.
He said focus would be on tackling organised crimes, cyber crimes and traffic management.
Khurania was given a guard of honour at the Commissionerate headquarters. later, he was briefed about the law and order situation of the twin cities by senior officials.
