INTUC Odisha president Dr Rama Chandra Khuntia on Wednesday urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to take appropriate action for holding the NEET entrance examination in Odia for 2016-17 for Odia students.
In a letter to the CM, Khuntia expressed unhappiness that in spite of repeated demand the Union Government has not included Odia in the list of scripts for holding NEET Exam in Odia.
“Non-inclusion of Odia is a great shock to all Odia students, who are interested to appear for the NEET examination,” said Khunita.
However, he expressed unhappiness that the Chief Minister has requested the Union Government to hold the NEET examination in Odia regional language only for 2017-18. “Then what about 1016-17 exams,” wanted to know Khuntia.
He too refuted the Director Medical Education’s claim that the State Government has not been consulted for the NEET test.
“The matter was repeatedly raised by me from 2012 and memorandum was given to State Government. It was raised in the Parliament and reply was given by the Minister which was also sent to the CM of Odisha. In the reply, Central Government clearly said if the State Government wants to conduct the examination in Odia, then it should write to Central Government for consideration. But till now, the State Government has not raised the demand. It is the interest of Odisha. I request you to kindly take appropriate action to allow NEET entrance examination to be held in Odia for 2016-17 for Odia students,” Khuntia mentioned in the letter.
Khuntia said he has also sent supporting documents to the CM in support of his claim that the Centre has sought suggestion from the State Government for conducing the NEET test in Odia.
