Vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested Assistant Executive Engineer (EE) of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWS&S) Khordha Sub-Division laxman Behera for demanding and accepting bribe of `10,000.
Assistant EE Behera had demanded `10,000 from a resident of Kuhudi village under the Tangi police station Dharmendra Kumar Patra to pass the pending bill relating to execution of 12 toilets at different places under Swachha Bharat Mission (Gramina) Scheme.
However, Patra reported the matter to Bhubaneswar Vigilance SP and accordingly, a trap was set and accused Behera was caught red-handed in his office at Khordha while accepting the bribe of `10,000 from the complainant. The accused has been arrested and will be forwarded to the court. The residential quarter of Behera at Plot No 13/1960 at Kolathia here is being searched.
It is pertinent to mention here that Behera was earlier arrested and forwarded to custody in connection with a Koraput Vigilance case for demanding and accepting illegal gratification of `3 lakh.
