Vigilance officers on Tuesday arrested Assistant Engineer Bibhu Prasad Acharya of Chandpur R and B section at Tangi under the Khordha R and B Division for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 15,000 from one Jitendra Sahoo of Gurujanga in Khordha district.
Acharya demanded the bribe for submission of bills to the Sub-Division or Division office with recommendation for payment of Rs 5,40,000 to Sahoo against an executed work. Investigation was on and house of the assistant engineer was under search.
In another instance, Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested and court-forwarded Sub-inspector (SI) Srinibash Matha of Gopalpur outpost under the Khantapada police station in Baleswar for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs10,000 from one Rabati Majhi of Maharudrapur village.
The SI demanded bribe from Rabati to eliminate her and her husband’s names from a case. Investigation was on and house of the SI was under search. Matha was remanded to judicial custody till April 13.
