An art competition for children of primary schools of Khariar block was held recently on the occasion of inauguration of a Khariar School of Arts and Crafts here. Over 200 children of different private as well as Government schools participated in the competition.
The children were divided into senior and junior groups; and three children from each group were selected for awards. The other participants were awarded certificates.
"This is the first school of arts and crafts in the district. There are many music schools teaching song and dance, but there was no art and craft school. This school filled the gap," said D Sing Babu, president of the managing committee.
School director Jasobant Panda assured that the institute would open up opportunities for learners to express their inner abilities. Pappu Satnami, an MPhil in Arts, Umesh Ch. Barik, an expert in animation film who has worked in the ‘Chote Bhim’ serial and
Khira Baitharu have joined as faculties of the school. The school would run on Saturday and Sunday, informed the organisers.
Dr Fanindam Deo and Dr Pl Barma, both educationists, Nimai Tandi, ex-chairman of Khariar NAC, Kshyanaprabha Panigrahi, WEO of Khariar block and Ajit Panda were guests on the occasion. Teacher Gouranga Sahu, one of the active members of the school, coordinated the programme.
