While the mystery behind death of 11-year-old Mohit Satnami of lachhipur village under Khariar block in Nuapada district has not been unearthed for more than five years, the case has now been handed over to the Crime Branch.
A team comprising CB DSP Ananta Mohanty, Nuapada Vigilance Inspector Sibram Sahu and Khariar PS IIC Sadanand Pujahari visited lachhipur and nearby forest area for investigation on Saturday.
“The incident had happened in July 2013 but the police remained clueless for almost five years. Hence, we approached the High Court, which issued a direction to the Crime Branch,” revealed aggrieved family members.
According to information, Mohit had gone missing in July 2013.
The Khariar police discovered a decomposed headless body in a forest near the village a few days later. From the clothes and other belongings lying near the body, the family members could establish that the body was of Mohit.
After being informed, the Khariar police started investigation but could find any clue behind his death. It was then guessed to be a case of witchcraft by villagers.
“We are hopeful the the Crime Branch will bring out culprits to the fore and punish them,” said family members.
