Khariar block staff go on pen-down stir

Published on:

Staffs of the Khariar block office have gone on an indefinite pen-down strike from Tuesday demanding arrest of the persons who physically attacked BDO Ramesh Chandra Jena and JE Gobind Chandra Swain.

While Jena was attacked in his official residence by one Krushana Pande on Wednesday last, Swain was beaten up by Surendra Behera, husband of Khariar block Chairperson, on Thursday. FIRs have been lodged by both the officials, but the main culprits are yet to be nabbed.

The police have forwarded one Dolamohan Jan in connection with the FIR of Swain.

"Block officials have been regularly attacked by goons. How can we work with so much of insecurity, questioned the officials. They further informed that Surendra Behera was one of the accused in manhandling of ex-BDO NC Naik about a year ago. He was not arrested at that time.

"We thus demand immediate arrest of the culprits. The pen-down strike will continue indefinitely till the arrests are made," added the officials.

The OAS Officers' Association of Nuapada, in the meantime, discussed in detail about the issue at a meeting held at Nuapada on Tuesday. The officers have also discussed about the issue with the Collector and the SP.
