In a tragic incident, the humiliation and insult by a Khap Panchayat forced a youth to commit suicide at Kalimela in the district.
Dibakar Bepari took the extreme step after he was beaten up by locals as part of punishment for supporting two lovers in the village. His body was found hanging near a temple on Friday.
Police launched a probe into the incident following a complaint by the youth’s brother.
The incident took place at MPV-20 village under the Kalimela police limits. The Kangaroo Court had slapped `15,000 as fine on Dibakar and ordered the locals to thrash him in public for helping a minor girl have affair with a boy of the village.
