Khallikote Varsity Syndicate election opposed

The scheduled November 18 election for the lone Syndicate member post of the Khallikote Cluster University has been opposed by a Senate member nominated by the Governor.

Brahmapur University’s former Reader Dr Sailabala Padhy, a Senate member nominated the Govornor, has alleged that the Orissa University Act 1989 and the Orissa University First Statutes 1990 were violated in the Senate meeting held on November 10.

She alleged that required numbers of Senate members, student leaders and nonteaching staffs were not present and former Vice-Chancellors were not called. She wanted to know why, out of two vacant Syndicate member posts, one post was filled up by selection and election would be held to fill up the other.

Padhy has written a letter to the VC requesting to put on hold the scheduled election till the matter is solved. She threatened that she would knock on the doors of the higher authorities if her demand is not met. Notably, Brahmapur MlA Ramesh Chandra Chaupatnaik was selected as a Syndicate member unopposed on November 10. And for the rest post, Sidhartha Padhy and Sailabala Padhy have filed their nominations.
