A trial court here on Wednesday held five of the eight arrested persons guilty in the sensation murder case of Kesab Behera alias Kesia and sentenced them to undergo rigorous imprisonment (RI) for life. Behera was the secretary of the Sheikh Bazaar Puja Committee here and was shot dead in front of his house in the morning hours of July 7, 2013. He had received six bullets in his body and died while on his way to the hospital.
Holding trial in the case, the Additional Sessions Court of Bidyut Kumar Mishra held Biswanath Behera, Kesav Behera, Debraj Behera, Subhransu Das and Sk Sayeed guilty under section 302 (murder) of IPC and sentenced them. The court however acquitted three other arrested accused, Prakash Behera, Sayeed Abdul alias laden Munna and Dinabandhu Behera for lack of evidence against them. All the eight were arrested soon after the incident in July 2013.
