A person of the district was arrested late on Friday night by the Chennai police on theft charge. He was identified as Gouranga Jena.
Jena was arrested on the charge of stealing cash and gold ornaments from a house in Chennai where he was working as a domestic help.
A team of Chennai police with the assistance of local police nabbed him from Daradipal village under the Ghasipura PS in the district.
Reports said Jena had allegedly looted cash and jewelleries worth over Rs 10 lakh from his employer’s house in Chennai two months ago.
But police found no stolen items from his possession. He would be taken to Chennai after interrogation, sources said.
Earlier, acting on a complaint filed at a police station in Chennai, the Tamil Nadu police had nabbed the accused from his village here on August 12 without taking assistance from local cops.
But locals protested Jena’s arrest, following which the Chennai cops had to free him and return to Tamil Nadu empty-handed.
