Keonjhar DM’s action alleged to be one-sided

Rampant corruption has become a national shame for India and is an issue which demands stern action from the authority.

On this ground, when a video went viral in social media concerning Joda BDO Jogeshwar Naik accepting bribe from a women Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) on Thursday, Keonjhar Collector Ashish Thackrey transferred him.

It is no doubt a welcome step but while exercising his power, it isalleged that Thackrey took a one-sided decision. He took no actionagainst Yagyaseni Behera who was claiming to have bribed the BDO inthe video as both bribe taker and bribe giver are equally guilty inthe eyes of law and should be taken to task.

It is definitely a salutary step by Yagyaseni to highlight the corruptBDO. But a question arises is why didn't she inform the matter to theCollector or Vigilance beforehand, if her intention was to expose thecorrupt.

Meanwhile, BDO Naik told that some months back, Yagyaseni who wasworking as PEO of Anseikala GP, had been transferred to the blockoffice. Naik said Yagyaseni might have harboured grudge against himfor the matter and bringing the bribe slur to avenge on him. Secondly,

Naik said some Sarapanches were always putting pressure on him to pass bills without doing any work. He further added that some months back, a group of SHGs were trying to malign him when he objected to pass food supply bill on the ground of inferior quality of Chhatua.

Under the above circumstances, it is demanded for a thorough inquiryin the case.
