A case has come to the fore where a middle-aged Dalit woman of Nuagaon village under Kendrapada district’s Rajnagar block has demanded adequate compensation against a faulty family planning operation, for which she has become mother for the fourth time.

Sabitri Sehty (37) placed the demand before the district Collector and the CDMO recently.

In her petition, Sabitri, wife of a BPl cardholder, stated that she had on January 23, 2010 undergone family planning operation at the Rajnagar CHC after becoming mother of three children. But later she conceived and gave birth to a girl child on June 13, 2016.

She too alleged that doctors and paramedical staff at the Rajnagar CHC didn’t take proper care of her during the last delivery and even took Rs 10,000 from her husband for the delivery.

“Due to the faulty family planning operation, I was once again become the mother of a girl child. I was unaware of the fact that several Government aids are provided to pregnant women and insurance claims to women who conceive after faulty planning operations. To add to my plights, medical staff destroyed all the documents relating to my newly born girl child, for which I am yet to get Government benefits,” stated Sabitri in her complaint.

Sabitri brought her sorry plight before the district Collector during the grievance cell organised at Rajnagar on August 29. The Collector asked her to meet the CDMO for insurance claim.

Accordingly, Sabitri filed a complaint at the CDMO office demanding insurance claim against faulty family planning operation and actions against the doctor and paramedical staff who took Rs 10,000 for her last delivery.
