Celebrating the Netaji Jayanti, members of the Shri Jagannath Charitable Trust with the help of Dr Shankar Ramchandani, Assistant Professor of Medicine in VIMSAR, on Monday launched a Re 1 medicine service in Kendrapada township, especially for the poor and underprivileged patients.
On the inauguration day, more than 150 patients were treated and provided medicines.
“The service is going to be held on the last week of every month and later we would request the Dr Ramchandani to come at least twice in a month to render his service for the needy patients,” informed president of Shri Jagannath Charitable Trust Daman Mohanty.
“Being influenced on the social service of Dr Ramchandani in treating the poor and underprivileged patients @Rs 1 and also distributing medicine to the patients, we met Dr Ramchandani at Sambalpur and felicitated him. During our conversation, we requested him to come to coastal Kendrapada district at least once in a month to treat the poor patients by taking Re 1 as doctor fee. He gladly acquiesced," said member of Shri Jagannath Charitable Trust Sagar Jena.
The Trust also arranged 100 meals for the poverty stricken patients, Kedar Swain, another member said.
Dr Ramchandani, who hit headlines when he took a leprosy patient carrying him in his arms and dropped him in his house in 2019, and later received much appreciation for his Re 1 clinic in Burla, said, " It was the wish of my late father, Brahmanand Ramchandani to set up a nursing home and serve the poor."
