Irate over the act of the headmistress of a school here in Kendrapada township, the locals since last Tuesday have locked the school. They were demanding action against her and her immediate transfer from the school.

Though BEO Paramananda Sahu had assured the locals and the guardians to take steps against the headmistress and urged the locals to open the school, but the latter stayed firm in their decision and said that they would not open the school till the headmistress was not transferred.

According to sources, the locals and guardians  of Nasidipur several times brought the matter before the District Education Department and the district Collector alleging that the headmistress of  Nasidipur Special Primary School, Swapna Parida, and another assistant teacher of the said school generally do not come to the school on time. They were not taking any interest in the teaching either, the locals complained.

While the headmistress remains busy most of the time in gossiping in phone, the assistant teacher drowses in the school during class hour. Though the school has two rooms, but the headmistress locks one of the room and the school generally functions in a single room, alleged the guardians.

The locals also alleged that large scale of irregularities and misappropriation of funds were made by the headmistress in connivance with the teacher. The locals also leveled charges like corporal punishment and employing students in manual works against the headmistress.

“I visited the school on Tuesday and conducted an inquiry. Both the teachers have been found guilty. I have submitted a detailed inquiry report before the DEO and the district Collector to take action against them. Meanwhile, I urged before my higher ups to transfer the headmistress immediately and issue so-cause notice to the assistant teacher,” stated Block Education Officer (BEO) Sahu.
