Kendrapada man, son injured in acid attack

Two persons of a family of Kanapur village under Kendrapada district’s Rajkanika police station sustained injuries as a fellow villager threw acid on them over a land dispute on Sunday. The two, Sanatan Das and his son Smruti Ranjan, have been shifted to the SCB Medical College Hospital after a preliminary treatment at the Rajkanika CHC, said Rajkanika PS IIC Sandhyarani Behuria.

Recently, Sanatan along with his son had come from his workplace Kolkata to his house. He came to know that a tamarind tree grown on his land was cut by his cousin Niranjan Das a fortnight back. When Sanatan and his son asked Niranjan why he cut the tree without their permission, an altercation erupted between them. Consequently, Niranjan threw acid on them. The father-son duo received 30 per cent burn injuries. Sanatan’s sister Pratima has lodged an FIR against Niranjan making these allegations. The police have registered a case. The accused was yet to be arrested as he fled from the village after the incident, informed Behuria.
