According to Kendrapara town police station IIC Pramod lenka, last Thursday night Mitali (20), a native of Kalapathar, who was living with her family under Khurda Municipality, committed suicide out of frustration by consuming chloroquine tablets here. Her boyfriend betrayed her by backtracking on his promise to marry her. He had kept physical relationship with her before.
Deceased Mitali fell in love with Kabiraj Nayak, a resident of Rasol village in Dhenkanal, while Mitali was studying in class 7th as the youth and his brother Debaraj were operating a garage near her house at Khurda. later, Kabiraj, who was the distance relative of deceased Mitali, managed to keep illicit relationship with her after luring to marry her. Even, she had terminated her pregnancy. Kabiraj spurned the marriage proposal when Mitali’s family negotiated marriage proposal with him. Even, Kabiraj’s family demanded a sum of Rs 2 lakh in dowry.
The Kendrapada police had registered a case and detained Debaraj. On Sunday, Kabiraj and his father Suren Nayak surrendered themselves before IIC of Kendrapara Town police. Police later arrested the duo.
