Kendrapada cops arrest culprit's younger brother

Once again Kendrapada police got controversial after they  arrested a man on charge of an offence committed by another.  If sources are to be believed one Gyanaranajan Das was arrested by Pattamundai police earlier this month mistaking him as the actual offender Manoranjan Das of Gogua village.

The mistake of the police was found when Gyanaranjan filed a bail petition on May 23 in the court and he unearthed that his name was not in the charge sheet framed by the Pattamundai police, though he was arrested and forwarded to the court.

According to sources, one Anil Das of Khamarapada village, who was staying in a rented house at Badamulabasant village under Pattamundai police station, had lodged an FIR with the Pattamundai police that his motorbike had been stolen on May 3 last. He alleged in the FIR that Jaga Mallick and Dipu Mallick of Badamulabasanta village with the help of Manoranjan stole his motor bike. later, the police registered a case and managed to arrest Dipu and Jaga of Badamulabasanta village and arrested Gyanaranjan instead of the actual culprit Manoranajan.

The police later forwarded Gyanranjan to the JMFC court of Pattamundai along with two others in the bike stolen case. Notably, Gyanaranjan is the younger brother of Manoranjan.

When contacted, Kendrapada SP Sarthak Sarangi informed that the matter was investigated and it was found that when the police nabbed Gyanaranjana, he identified himself as Manoranjan.

“There is a technical mistake. I will communicate the district judge about the matter and will urge him to rectify the name in the charge sheet,” said the SP.
