The Kendrapada District and Sessions Judge, Bijayketan Mohanty, on Wednesday convicted a person for seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of `1 lakh for raping a Dalit girl and molesting her female family members on March 27, 2010 at Nuapada village under Patkura police station.
The court awarded the punishment to 57-year-old black conjurer, Pratap Jena of Shadipur village under Raghunathpur police limit of Jagatsinghpur as he had raped a girl and molested the female members of her family while he was coming to the victim’s house for organising a worship to drive out the evil spirits from the house. The District Session Judge too recommended to the State legal Aid Authority to pay compensation amount to the victim as per the victim compensation scheme.
