Vigilance officers on Monday trapped the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Kendrapada-cum-Headmaster of Dohali High School along with a mediator who was a teacher of a primary school while the duo were taking a bribe of Rs18,000 from a retired teacher at the BEO’s rented house at Khardasahi for sanctioning his pending arrear salary and retirement benefits.
Cuttack Vigilance Inspector KK Panda said BEO Charan Nayak and Durga Prasad Das were taking the bribe from Niranjan Mekap, a retired teacher of Korua UGUP School. A sum of Rs10,000 was seized from the BEO while he kept the money below a pillow while Rs8,000 was seized from Das.
