Ashok Kumar Tripathy, on his first visit to Nuapada district after being appointed as the KBK Administrator, stayed here for three days from September 28 to oversee various developmental activities. On the first day, he conducted a review meeting with Government officials at Nuapada and took stock of the development situation of the district.
Tripathy visited different villages to see the progress of construction works like ITI and degree model college buildings at Khariar, Anganwadi Centres, tribal hostels and drinking water supply in fluoride-affected villages. He also saw the crop situations to assess the impact of drought in the district.
Briefing the media at Khariar and Koman, Tripathy said there is huge loss of crops like paddy and cotton in medium lands. “Works have to be initiated under the MGNREGS immediately to provide employment to people as the failure of crop in medium lands would drastically affect employment generation situation,” he said.
He expressed satisfaction over the progress of drinking water supply projects to address the fluoride problem.
When members of the District Press Club drew his attention to the allegation that hundreds of children of Rayagada district have been admitted in the tribal school of Kamalamal village in Boden block by paying thousands of rupees to a broker, Tripathy immediately paid a visit to the school and assessed the
situation. “Admission of about one hundred children from outside the district certainly seems unusual. I have directed the district Collector to conduct an inquiry of the situation,” he said after the visit.
Tripathy also visited the site for construction of a Kendriya Vidyalaya adjacent to the Industrial Training Institute and the Model School and appreciated the site. “The area looks like an educational hub,” he commented.
District Collector Sidiq Alam, DRDA Project Director Pradip Naik and other district officials accompanied the KBK Administrator during his visit.
