Spelling more trouble for Independent Champua MlA Sanatan Mahakud, Kavita Mahakud (28), who claims to be his daughter-in-law, recorded her statements before the Mahila police here on Friday.
Kavita recorded her statements before the Investigating Office (IO) in the presence of Zone ACP Asim Panda at the Mahila police station as per Section 161 of CrPC. The process continued for three hours.
The woman on Tuesday had filed a complaint with the police alleging harassment by the MlA over her “marriage” with Pankaj, the elder son of the MlA.
On the basis of her complaint, police registered a case under Sections 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC against Mahakud and his son-in-law Dinabandhu Barik.
On Thursday, Kavita had threatened to go in for a DNA test to establish the paternity of her one-year-old daughter.
Meanwhile, Debashish Mahakud, whom Kavita claims to have married earlier, challenged her claim of having married the MlA’s son.
“I have been trying to bring her home for the past two years. How could she marry another man without divorcing meIJ” asked Debashish.
