The Jaatree, a cultural society for promotion of art, culture and social welfare, following the demise of playwright-actor-director Girish Karnad, organised a symposium on “Girish Karnad's contribution to Indian art and culture” here on Monday.

Actor and director Prasant Mohapatra presided over the session. Dolagovind Rath, Bimal Babu, Abhinna Routray and Dr Ramesh Panigrahi reminisced about their experiences with Karnad.

Abhinna Routray spoke about Karnad’s play ‘Flowers’ and Rath narrated his experience about meeting Karnad in Ebrahim Alkaji's residence in the National School of Drama (Delhi) campus.

Dr Panigrahi threw light on late Girish’s plays from ‘Yajati’ (1961) to his last play ‘Wedding Album’ (2017) and gave a scholarly analysis of why and how he was intently obsessed with myths, legends, folktales and history for allegorising contemporary Indian experiences.

Mithun Malay Pradhan, Rosalin Pradhan and other members of Jaatree participated in the session.
