Kantamaal-Tarbha bridge work utterly slow

The Kantamaal-Tarbha bridge work of 2.5 km at a cost of `22 crore over the Tel river at Tikrapada ghat moves very slow, despite inconveniences faced by the locals.

The Rural Development (RD) department had set a target to complete the bridge by 2015, whose construction had started in 2012.

According to reports, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid the stone for the project in 2012. But till date, the bridge’s 12 slabs have been completed out of 14 slabs.

large numbers of people from Kantamaal go to Bolangir for business, but take a round-about route of 80 km via Subarnapaur. With the bridge ready, the distance could be shortened considerably.

The river has been a dividing line between Subarnapur and Boudh districts. In dry season, people use country made boats to cross the river. About 24 gram panchayats of Tarbha and Kantamaal blocks would be benefitted by the bridge.

On the other hand, the contractor said the land acquisition problem has been the main barrier in completion of the bridge.
