In yet another instance of a kangaroo court taking law into its hands, a youth of Bhekta village under the Talachua Marine police station in Kendrapada district was stripped and beaten brutally by a group of locals in the presence of the local Sarpanch on Monday.
The incident came to the fore after a video of the whole incident was made viral on social media by a mob.
Sources said the youth was working under a businessman, Bulu Jena, of Sikaripahi village and had developed love relationship with Jena’s daughter. later, the youth and the girl had eloped to Bhubaneswar.
A group of locals of Talachua village caught the youth in Bhubaneswar and took him to the village to take revenge. later, he was taken to the panchayat office premises, where the mob stripped him and beat him black and blue with a wooden plank in front of his father. Moreover, they also made a video of his naked body and uploaded it on social media.
The youth, who sustained injuries in the attack, was later admitted to the Talachua Primary Health Centre for treatment. However, no police complaint was filed in this connection till yet.
