The students who passed 10th from the Government High School, Sarangsda, in Kandhamal district were trapped by one Kesab Pradhan of their area who assured them to admit in Oxford Diploma College providing food, clothing, shelter, books for free.
On August 9, 2018, he took them to Bhubaneswar for admission in that college, but there he demanded Rs 2,000 from each for admission. He also took away their original certificates like marksheet, migration, caste, residence and income. When they showed their inability to join and wanted their original certificates back, he did not pay heed.
Consequently, the victims lodged a complaint before the Sarangsda police station IIC on December 8 last year.
The police summoned Pradhan; and at the police station, he agreed to return the original documents and gave an assurance to this effect in writing. But it all was in vain. Again, he demanded Rs 10,000 from each victim for returning the documents.
The students lost one year and couldn’t take admission due to loss of their original certificates. They now urge the administration to interfere in the matter and save their career.
