Kandhamal Haladi bags GI tag

Published on:

The famous ‘Kandhamal Haladi’ (the turmeric produced in Kandhamal district) has bagged the much-sought-after Geographical Indications (GI) tag.

This cash crop of the tribals-dominated region, famous for its healing properties, is the 18th product from the State to have earned itself a GI tag.

The Phulbani-based Kandhamal Apex Spices Association for Marketing had registered this spice under the name ‘Kandhamal Haladi’ with the application number ‘610’ in December 2018, which was accepted under Sub-Section (1) of Section 13 of the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999.

The Kandhamal Haladi, besides being used for medicinal reasons, is also used for cooking and cosmetic purposes.
