The Vigilance police on Wednesday caught Kandhamal district’s Sarangagada police station ASI Mahajana Pradhan red-handed for demanding and accepting illegal gratification of Rs 5,000.
He was caught taking bribe from complainant Ramanath Pradhan of Biriguda village to compromise the dispute reported at the police station between the complainant and his opponent party.
No criminal case has been registered, but station diary has been made and accused ASI Pradhan was enquiring into the matter.
Pradhan’s residential quarter inside the Sarangagada PS premises was searched. He was arrested and forwarded to court. In another case, the Vigilance police on December 18, conducted simultaneous search of the houses and office of Forest Guard Arjun Dalabehera of Goudaput beat Office under Khordha Forest Range Office on charge of amassing disproportionate assets.
In course of search and inventory, Dalabehera,was found in possession of assets worth Rs.71,32,585 including one three-storied building, four homestead plots at Khordha, Postal Bank deposits, investment in different Insurance companies, gold and silver ornaments, hard cash of Rs.2,19,807 and costly household articles.
