The body of Odisha mountaineer Kalpana Dash, which had been brought from Mount Everest to Kathmandu on Thursday, reached Bhubaneswar on Sunday morning.
Rich tributes were paid to her after her body arrived. The Sports Minister, the Sports Secretary along with many other eminent persons paid their last respects to the mountaineer.
Dash’s body was kept at the Kalinga Stadium for some time for the people to pay tributes to her. In the evening, her body was taken to her native Dhenkanal for cremation.
In Kathmandu, the body had been handed over to a three-member team from Odisha, which included Kalpana’s brother Pradip Dash, on Friday night following postmortem at a hospital in Kathmandu.
The body was supposed to reach the city on Saturday night but could not arrive here as the team missed their flight for Bhubaneswar at the Delhi airport. The State Government shouldered the entire expenses that were incurred for bringing the body.
Notably, Kalpana died while descending Mt Everest on May 23. Kalpana, who was a member of the ‘Three-Women Expedition’ locally managed by Dreamers Destination Treks, died near the balcony area while descending from the summit point.
