Kalikesh, 2 other MPs face Tricolour insult charge

Rights activist Subash Mohapatra on Thursday lodged a complaint with the State police against three MPs for insulting the Indian National Flag at the SAARC Young Parliamentarians Conference held in Pakistan two days back.

Mohapatra filed the complaint against BJD MP Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, BJP MP Devji Bhai Patel and Alok Tiwari of Samajwadi Party for insulting the National Flag.

The complaint said the Tricolour was seen hoisted with the green strip at the top and saffron at the bottom. Mohapatra alleged that Balangir MP Singh Deo remained silent when the National Flag was shown upside down and spoke on the occasion. The BJD MP further insulted the flag by posting his photograph with the wrongly-hoisted Tricolour on social media, the complainant said.

Meanwhile, Singh Deo clarified that they raised the issue and the organisers put up the national flag correctly.

“This was raised and promptly corrected by the hosts as is evident in the other pictures,” tweeted Singh Deo.
