Vigilance officers on Saturday arrested Puri district’s Kakatpur Block Development Officer (BDO) Santosh Kumar Sahoo for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 18,000 from the block’s Junior Engineer Subrat Kumar Barik for release of security amount of Rs 69,000 towards execution of 13 CC Road works.
Barik, a resident of Astaranga who has been working as the JE at Kakatpur block since 2013, had executed 13 cement concrete (CC) road works under Kakatpur block and applied to the BDO for release of security amount of Rs 69,000 on October 3, 2017. After several requests, Sahoo asked Barik to pay bribe of Rs 18,000 for the purpose. Finding no other option, Barik lodged a complaint at the Vigilance.
Accordingly, Vigilance officers laid a trap and caught Sahoo red-handed while taking the demanded amount from the complainant in his office room. BDO Santosh Kumar Sahoo was arrested and forwarded to court.
