The Sadar police here united two lovers by solemnising their marriage.

IIC Kabuli Barik said a Bablu Guru (22), a resident of  Beguniapada of Gopalpur under Mahanga police station had fallen in love with Surekha Behera (19) of Jaripada in Angulai under Kendrapada police station following friendship over a missed call.

Three days back, Guru allegedly had taken Surekha to Paradip to see Biswakarma Puja and both stayed together there.

In the meanwhile, the girl’s family lodged an FIR alleging that their daughter was abducted by Guru. Police registered a missing report and started inquiry. On Monday, Guru left the girl at Angulai and fled.

The girl instead of returning to her house remained at her relative’s house. The girl later with the help of a woman activist-cum-lawyer, Mamatamayee Samal, informed to the police that she had returned. Bablu contacted the police and urged to solemnize their marriage.

As both of them were major and, both the girl and the youth informed to the police that they have decided to marry, the police informed the matter to the girl’s family as well as to the father of Guru. The girl in her statement told the police that she was in love with Guru, for which she had gone with him.

Though the girl’s family agreed to the marriage, Guru’s parents did not. As a result, Guru urged the IIC that he would marry the girl, whether his parents agree or not.

Finally, the marriage was solemnised in the presence of the police, local gentlemen and lawyers on Tuesday evening.
