For the first time, noted danseuse Jyoti Srivastava of Noida organised a dance recital evening here giving deep respect for her Bhubaneswar-based guru late Sri Nath Rout on Thursday.
The evening titled Nrutya Pravah kicked off with scintillating Odishi vocal recital by Dr Sangeeta Gosain. This was followed by solo mardala vadan by guru Satchidananda Das.
The second half of the evening witnessed both solo and group Odishi dance presentations. The four senior students of the Vaishali Kala Kendra put up a neat presentation of Shiva Stutee in Mangalacharan. This was followed by Saveri Pallavi.
Vaishali Kala Kendra director Jyoti Srivastava presented a combination of ‘Ka’, ‘Kha’ and ‘Ga’ Champu. Her lyrical body movement and astounding facial expression hooked the audience. It was followed by ‘Chandana Charchita...’ from the Geeta Govinda where the students showed the typical nuances of Odishi proving the reputation of their guru. The last item from the group was Astasambh.
However, yet another guest performer of the evening was Ashok Kumar Ghosal and his students. They presented a dance drama Barsha, Basanta Baishakha as a concluding item.
In the dance item, they compared Barsha (rain) with birth, Basanta (spring) with youthfulness and Baisakha (summer) with old age. The dance piece was so captivating that the auditorium reverberated with thundering applause.
