Threatening to launch cease-work agitation in all the three Government medical colleges of the State, more than one thousand junior doctors of these teaching hospitals have decided to wear black badges from Monday. They are agitating for over ten days now demanding action against one of the Professors of Pathology of the SCB Medical College and Hospital here.
At least ten women junior doctors of the SCB College have brought sexual harassment and intimidation allegations against the professor, who is now untraceable and incommunicado. The junior doctors have brought this to the notice of the State Commission for Women (SCW) and the Commissionerate police.
Even a six-member SCB in-house committee was formed taking some other professors of the college to probe into the alleged sexual slur against one of their colleagues. But surprisingly, no agency has yet made any discernible progress in investigating the case forcing the junior doctors to intensify their stir.
“We had been silently waiting for all these days giving an opportunity to the Government to act swiftly against the concerned professor. Since nothing has happened, we are forced to launch cease-work agitation,” said Junior Doctors’ Association president Atma Ranjan Das here on Friday.
